About ZipLaw
Justice should be reachable from the inside. ZipLaw exists so incarcerated people are not locked out of the law. We give them access to clear research outputs, understandable explanations, and organized document templates so going pro se is less overwhelming.
We provide AI-powered legal research tools, research summaries, and document templates for federal inmates in BOP (FBOP) custody and the families who support them. Our focus includes compassionate release 18 U.S.C. 3582, habeas corpus 28 U.S.C. 2241, motions to vacate 28 U.S.C. 2255, and practical reentry planning.
Why We Built ZipLaw
Most incarcerated people cannot afford ongoing representation and cannot get timely, practical answers. Letters go unanswered. Calls are missed. Families are left trying to navigate the system from the outside without real tools.
Federal inmates proceeding pro se are expected to comply with complex procedural rules, strict deadlines, and technical formatting standards. One error can permanently close a legal door. The system punishes confusion.
What We Do
ZipLaw is a legal information and tools platform — not a law firm. We provide structured research outputs, readable summaries, document templates, and organizational materials inmates can use to prepare filings and plan next steps.
Who We Serve
ZipLaw is designed for federal inmates seeking clarity, families who want a predictable way to help, and reentry-focused organizations that need compliant, paper-ready materials.
Our Mission
We believe justice should not be reserved for the wealthy or well-connected. Our mission is to make organized, usable legal information accessible — even from inside a prison cell.
Our Principles
Dignity. Every person is more than their case.
Clarity. We simplify complexity.
Compliance. We operate within BOP and ethical boundaries.
Access. Tools must reach the person who needs them.
